Eko Hot Blog reports that Veteran Actress, Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, professionally known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has revealed that most actors in the film industry are struggling with health challenges.
She made the case while speaking with reporters, including an Eko Hot Blog correspondent, at the 8th day Fidau Prayer for late actor, Murphy Afolabi, at Blue Roof, Ikeja, Lagos State, on Monday.
She spoke about Veteran Yoruba actor, Prince Ademola Adeyemo, who died on Monday morning after being on the sickbed for more than two years.
According to her, Prince Adeyemo died despite financial help from actors like Funke Akindele who recently lost her bid to be the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
“Those who are sick among us are plenty. The daddy (Prince Ademola Adeyemo) who died this morning had been for around two and half years,” she said in Yoruba.
“Singlehandedly, Funke Akindele took the man to LUTH and bought him drugs food for some months.”
Oshodi-Oke also corrected the notion that “actors don’t contribute or take care of themselves when they are sick and need funds for treatment.”
She said it is not true as everyone always supports anytime the need arises.
The actress also mentioned her health issues and how the Chairman of the Lagos Parks management committee, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) and her colleagues have made contributions to help her.
In the past, many Nollywood actors, whom the public assumed are rich due to their popularity, have come out to seek financial aid for health reasons.
Last year, Nollywood actors called for public donations to help actress, Kemi Afolabi, treat Lupus, an autoimmune disease which gulped millions of naira.
In 2021, popular Nigerian actor, Ojo Arowosafe, professionally known as Fadeyi Oloro, appealed to Nigerians to assist him financially over his health issue.
Arowosofe eventually died in March 2023.
