Eko Hot Blog reports that there was a mild drama at the Asaba Airport, Delta State, on Sunday as air passengers who departed Lagos State for Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were flown to a different location.
A former governorship candidate in Kano State, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, better known as Dawisu, made the disclosure in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Yakasai revealed that he was on the United Nigeria Airline’s flight that arrived at the wrong destination.

According to the politician, the cabin crew had announced that the flight arrived Abuja, only for passengers to realise that they landed in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
He noted that the pilot was apparently given the wrong flight plan from Lagos.
“Nigeria my country. We departed Lagos about an hour ago on @flyunitedng to Abuja, and upon arrival, the cabin crew confidently announced that we’ve arrived Abuja, only for us to realize that we landed in Asaba,” Yakasai wrote.
“Apparently, our pilot was given wrong flight plan from Lagos.”

He further disclosed that the passengers were subsequently flown to Abuja.

Meanwhile, United Nigeria Airline has reacted to the situation.
In a statement, the airline’s Head, Corporate Communication, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, claimed that the flight was temporarily diverted due to poor destination weather.
He stated that the aircraft pilot was aware of the “temporary diversion” but the cabin crew made a “wrong announcement” upon landing in Asaba.
“A United Nigeria Airlines flight, NUA 0504, operating from the MM2 in Lagos enroute Abuja on Sunday, November 26, 2023, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather,” the airline spokesperson said.
“At all material time, the Pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed.
“However, a wrong announcement was made by cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba.
“Meanwhile, the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja following improvement on destination weather.
“United Nigeria Airlines remains committed to ensuring the safety of its passengers at all times.”
Notably, Yakasai, one of the passengers on the flight, insisted that the pilot told passengers that he was given the wrong flight plan.
He noted that the airline was either “doing damage control” or the pilot misinformed passengers.
“Either the pilot misinformed us, or they’re doing damage control. But when we landed in Asaba, he announced that he received the wrong flight plan,” the passenger wrote on X.

Another passenger on the flight, identified as Tesidorth on X, confirmed Yakasai’s claim, saying the pilot received a wrong flight plan, contrary to United Nigeria Airline’s statement.
“The pilot received a wrong flight plan and caused all the headaches,” she wrote.
