VIDEO: Health Minister Tunji Alausa Assesses Ibadan Explosion Victims

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in response to the recent explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, conducted a visit on Saturday to assess the impact on the University College Hospital (UCH) and interact with victims receiving treatment.

The primary purpose of Dr. Alausa’s visit was to personally evaluate the condition of victims admitted to UCH following the tragic explosion.

The minister stated that he received instructions from President Bola Tinubu to inspect the patients and provide a detailed report.

During his interactions with the victims, he revealed that out of the 17 patients admitted, 10 had been discharged, while the remaining seven were showing signs of improvement.

The patients expressed appreciation for the hospital’s excellent treatment.

In a gesture of care and concern, Dr. Alausa extended President Tinubu’s greetings to each patient individually, emphasizing the President’s commitment to their well-being.

The second part of the visit focused on examining the structural damage inflicted on the hospital by the explosion.

Accompanied by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and other senior leaders, Dr. Alausa toured the affected areas and witnessed the extent of the damages.

Assuring the CMD, the minister pledged support from the Ministry of Health to facilitate the repair of the damages caused by the explosion.

He expressed satisfaction that the damages were not extensive, highlighting the importance of safety.

At the conclusion of the visit, the minister stated his contentment with the situation, commending the hospital’s resilience.

Dr. Alausa announced that the CMD would form a committee to conduct an integrity test to ensure the safety of the hospital’s structures.

He concluded by acknowledging the caring and compassionate response demonstrated by President Tinubu in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

Since the minister was appointed and sworn in in August 2023, he has toured medical facilities across the country, outlining the president’s vision to drastically improve the country’s health sector.

Earlier this month, Dr. Alausa was in Lagos State to unveil a state-of-the-art IVF centre at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

During the visit, the health minister also spearheaded the launch of the Lagos State University of Health and Medical Sciences, a project he initiated and is aimed at significantly increasing the production of healthcare workers every year.

Furthermore, he toured critical health facilities, including the Lagos State BSL3 Biobank and the site earmarked for the upcoming Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI).

Dr. Alausa promised the Lagos government that the federal government will provide necessary support to the state and others to fortify Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure against potential health crises.
