Violence, Irregularities, Disrupt Local Government Elections In Epe
- At press time, the party leaders and stakeholders had come together to sign a memorandum, confirming that the election did not hold.
The All Progressives Congress Primaries Election in Epe scheduled to hold yesterday, Saturday, May 29, 2021, has been postponed.
The Primaries was scheduled to hold across all 20 Local Government Areas and 57 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State to determine the party’s flagbearers for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the State.
Despite the threat of inclement weather in the early hours of Saturday, much excitement and anticipation had rented the air as the local community had thronged out en masse to different Collation Centres across Epe and Eredo LCDA to participate in the exercise.
However, due to chaotic infractions caused by cross-sections of candidates’ supporters and alleged irregularities on the part of the election officials, the planned exercise came to a fiasco.
As gathered, there was touchable apprehension across different Collation Centres as some disgruntled members of the crowd began to clamour that certain characters within the party are hell-bent on hijacking the exercise.
At Ansar-ud-deen Primary School, which played host to Ward J1, despite relatively registering more tranquillity than other Collation Centres, the election could not get underway due to reports that the ballot papers deployed for the election did not capture the newly registered members of the party.
As earlier reported by Eko Hot Blog, the atmosphere at Ward H1, L.G, Primary School, Eredo had simmered to boiling point after supporters of the contesting aspirants locked horns in a violent clash that caused security operatives to release tear gas into the atmosphere to disperse the agitated crowd.
The story was no different at other Collation Centres, as reports of violence, as well as electoral irregularities, skewed the exercise to a public debacle.
Speaking with Eko Hot Blog, residents and party members who had turned out to participate in the exercise, expressed disappointment at the outcome of the planned exercise.

They lamented that the election could not hold because some elements within the party are intensely committed to hijacking the process.
