A visually-impaired lecturer at the Bayero University Kano (BUK), Professor Jibril Diso in a raffle draw, won an IVM Ikenga 2020 model car which Innoson company donated to the Federal Government.
Speaking at the official presentation of the prize, Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Budget and National Planning , Ernest Umakhihe, explained that Jibrin emerged the winner of a raffle draw conducted at the 18 th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning ( JPB/NCDP ) meetings at Asaba , Delta State , between October 9 and 11 , 2019.
Umakhihe explained that the journey began when the committee embarked on a familiarisation tour to the IVM Plant at Nnewi , Anambra State, to see the level of the company’s commitment to the nation’ s economic diversification polity.
“ As a show of appreciation and for the visit to the plant, the chairman magnanimously donated a brand new IVM lkenga 2020 model vehicle to the delegates.
“ To determine who gets the car and for the purpose of transparency , the council used a raffle draw in which one of the delegates, Professor Jibrin Diso , emerged winner, ” he said.
While congratulating the winner , the secretary appreciated the chairman of IVM, Innocent Chukwuma , for his support of national economic growth.
He reiterated the government ’s determination to support and encourage local industries through the implementation of the Local Content policy by patronising Made- in- Nigeria products.
Umakhihe assured that “the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning identifies fully with the idea of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan ( ERGP).”
The winner don said , “I also thank Allah for making me visually-impaired and then gave me the opportunity to turn my disability to ability.
At the risk of sounding immodest , I must state that it is not easy for a visually- handicapped person to become a professor in Nigerian environment, with all its attendant encumbrances and other hamstring circumstances. ”
He thanked Innoson for donating the car .
