Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has dismissed claims by some quarters of the Nigerian society for the scrapping of the Nigerian parliament.
Lawan also challenged those who are not comfortable with the senators in the current 9th Assembly to vote them out in 2023 if they don’t like their faces.
The senate president stated this on Friday while opening a retreat for top management staff of the National Assembly and National Assembly Service Commission in Abuja.

He also said the Senate is a leveller which ensures equal representation of the different states for the purpose of strengthening the process of governance.
The Senate President discredited the argument of those calling for the scrapping of the Senate due to the perceived mammoth wages being earned by the senators.
Lawan added that the annual budget of the National Assembly is less than one per cent of the nation’s 2021 budget.
