EDITOR’S PICK:
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the member representing Epe Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Wale Raji, has dismissed rumours of a political tussle with the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
As gathered by Eko Hot blog, the lawmaker was reacting to recent rumours pitting him against the Lagos Deputy Governor in what was described as a fray for the political control of Epe.
In a statement made available to our correspondent, Wale Raji described the reports as fallacious and misleading.
He said his goal, as well as every well-meaning political figure in the Division, is to make Epe a better place for everyone.
The statement read in part, “I want to once again appreciate the good people of Epe Federal Constituency for once again finding me worthy of flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress in 2023 following the recently concluded primary election. It is well appreciated and cherished. We will collectively make Epe a better place for us all.
That said, my attention was recently drawn to a publication in Punch depicting the contest as one between me and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, for the political control of Epe. The report is fallacious and misleading.”
He restated the fact the deputy governor and himself had been boon companions and, as such, shared no enmity between each other.
Wale Raji also noted that such unfounded speculations have become par-for-the-course for election periods such as this.
The statement further read, “To start with, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State is my friend, and there has never been any contest between me and him or anybody for the political control of Epe. As you may be aware, the election period is a period for name dropping and speculations. As a result, the reported sponsorship of one of the aspirants in the House of Reps pry for Epe Fed Constituency was a rumour and mere speculation.
I have also made it known both publicly and privately that I am a technocrat in politics who is more interested in the service of the people and my community and not one who is out to fight for political control or leadership. I urge the media and everyone always to carry out due diligence in their reportage to avoid raising clouds of dust unnecessarily.”
He described Epe as politically mature and stable, as evidenced in the peaceful way the last elections and previous ones have been conducted.

According to him, while other parts of the state witnessed political violence with an unprecedented number of casualties, Epe’s Election remains a standard to measure all elections and a beacon of democratic values. This, he said, was courtesy of the leadership provided by the Deputy Governor and other political leaders.
