Wasiu Ayinde Dazzles Crowd At Ojude Oba Epe Festival 2023

  • The Ojude Oba festival is an annual festival peculiar to people of faith in Southwest Nigeria.
  • It is usually celebrated on the 2nd or 3rd day of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities. Ojude Oba literally translates to “The frontage of the King”.
  • The festival gives the indigenes of a community, who come from far and near, the opportunity to unite and pay homage to the king.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the third day of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities in Epe Kingdom of Lagos State, Nigeria, unfolded with the annual, colourful and spectacular carnival; the Ojude-Oba.

The festival which took place on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Ogunmodede Secondary School, Epe, Lagos State, brought the town to a halt.

Eko Hot Blog was present at the 2023 edition of the Ojude-Oba festival hosted by Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, Arolugbade Elepe II, the Oloja of Epe kingdom.

The event was filled with individuals from all walks of life; traditional rulers, politicians, businessmen and women, traders, from Nigeria and beyond, as well as community dwellers graced the occasion.

Cultural and exuberant spectacle of sound, colour and music was the theme of the day. Guests and participants trooped in at about 11am adorned in different traditional attires and patterns unique to their families, clans and age grades.

 

The event began with the opening prayer offered by the Chief Imam of Epe land, Abdul-Lateef Oladapo. That was followed by the recitation of the national anthem.

King Ayinde Wasiu Marshall, the Maiyegun of Yoruba land, was onsite to serenade the crowd as the musician of the day.

For more entertainment, there was a procession by different age groups, clubs and clans, dancing gleefully as they paid homage to the king.

The host king, Oba Animashaun, who is also the chairman of the divisional council of Obas of Epe and the vice-chairman, Lagos state council of Obas, concluded the festival with a heartfelt prayer for all sons and daughters of Epe land, all guests, dignitaries and well wishers of the community.
