Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigerian Institute of Water Engineers (NIWE), a Division of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Lagos Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit to Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani at the LWC Headquarters, Water-House, Ijora, Lagos.
According to a statement issued by the LWC, the visit happened on Tuesday.
In his address the Chairman of the Institute, Engr. Ibrahim Yinusa Abiodun, MNSE, MNICE, MNIWE led the delegates of six (6) members to congratulate the new Corporation’s MD/CEO, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani and the Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs) Helen Omolanke Taiwo to their new offices, and also seek support of the LWC Management towards the inauguration of the NIWE Lagos Chapter Secretariat, domicile in Water-House, Ijora, Lagos.
Engr. Yinusa further urged the MD/CEO to encourage other engineers in the Corporation to register as members of the institute as this could be beneficial to both LWC and NIWE.
Membership of the institute is open to interested Corporate members of Nigerian Society of Engineers and COREN Registered Engineers.
While appreciating the NIWE executives for the courtesy visit, Engr. Tijani declared his support for NIWE and also pronounced his membership and that of his Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo to the institute.
In her contribution, the Executive Director, Operations added that the development is a good and welcome idea and will be of great advantage to both Corporation and the Institute, noting that the Corporation can tap from NIWE experience, particularly, in the area of latest technology in Water Sector for the progress and improvement in Water delivery in the State.
In appreciation of his efforts in service delivery in the state, NIWE presented a congratulatory plaque to Engr. Tijani.
NIWE delegates also present during the visit were, NIWE Vice Chairman, Mrs. Olayinka Odimayo, MNIWE; Engr. Semiu Ajadi, MNSE, MNIWE; Program Coordinator, Engr. Festus Omoike, MNSE, MNICE, MNIWE and Engr. (Mrs.) Philomena Oshungboye, MNICE, MNIWE (Member).
Also, prominent LWC Management Staff in attendance included: Engr. Bolaji Ogunlewe, Mr. Sheriff Akinpelu, Engr. (Mrs.) Ogunsua Adenike, Mrs. Fashola Kehinde, Mr. Anifowoshe Rasaq, Engr. Lawal Muritala and Mr. Atolagbe Adewale.
Earlier in April 3rd, 2022, the LWC endorsed the domicile of NIWE Lagos Chapter Secretariat at the LWC Water-House, Ijora, Lagos.
NIWE is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, with the objective to serve as an umbrella professional body for Engineers and Associates from Water-related disciplines to ensure effective utilisation of human and materials resources for the professional development and enhancement of professional competence of its members through capacity building programmes, public awareness/campaign, publication of journals and promotion of WASH through the establishment of Water and Hygiene Clubs in Secondary schools.
Meanwhile, the 6th NIWE National Water Conference (NWC 2023) is scheduled to hold between 11th – 15th, September, 2023, at the Event Tower, IBB Boulevard, opposite MKO International Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The event’s theme is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Governance in Nigeria: Rethinking Strategies and Strengthening Policies.
