Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, has revealed that water is now everywhere in the state.
Badmus made the disclosure at the Grand Finale and Maiden Annual Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Essay Competition, which was part of activities to mark 2023 World Water Day.
In an interview with Eko Hot Blog on the sidelines of the event, the water corporation boss hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for providing “a lot of intervention when it comes to water.”
“I think people are seeing the dividends now. Water is everywhere,” Badmus said.
While acknowledging there is more to do, he said the LWC’s aim is to ensure all households in Lagos have access to water.
“I think there is more to do because the water we are sending out now is not even enough for the citizens but our goal is to ensure that all households have access to potable water in the state and we are on course. I think very soon, there is going to be more water that is going to be delivered everywhere,” he said.
“But right now, water is coming out and people are enjoying it.”
Badmus, however, clarified that the current capacity of the corporation cannot serve all households in Lagos State.
“The government is doing something about that,” he said, adding that water will get to more households very soon.
“We are still doing more work on that,” he told our correspondent.
The LWC MD also noted that damages to water infrastructure have been preventing water from getting to a lot of areas.
“We are looking into that and the government is doing a whole lot in making sure that that stops and then we do more.”
He stated that the corporation is working with the police and other relevant agencies to nab criminals vandalising water infrastructure.
Speaking on the essay competition, Badmus said the event was aimed at training future leaders very early.
“What we are doing right now. We are celebrating our future leaders; our children. And then, we are passing the torch over to them and to give them the torch, you don’t dump it on their lap. You have to carry them along and that is what we are doing to encourage them, their teachers, and their parents to make sure that they see what we are doing, show interest in it, and develop themselves. And that is the purpose of this competition,” he said.
“There is more to come. We will continue to partner with interested groups that want to do more of this.”
The Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) partnered with the Lagos water corporation to organise the essay competition.
