His time with the club was marred by frequent injuries and a loss of form, resulting in limited appearances.
In the 2023-2024 season, Kalu was loaned to Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport, where he managed five goal involvements in twenty-one appearances across all competitions.
Despite these contributions, his overall impact at Watford was minimal, featuring in just thirteen games in all competitions, including four Premier League matches, without registering any goals or assists.
Kalu, a product of the Golden Boot Soccer Academy, was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and has earned sixteen caps for the Super Eagles.

However, he has not been called up since his brief appearance in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match against the Central African Republic in October 2021.
The 27-year-old, who also played for AS Trencin and KAA Gent earlier in his career, is now free to join a new club even after the summer transfer window has closed, as his contract with Watford was terminated on August 30.
