We Didn’t Apologise For Inviting Buhari – House Of Reps

The House of Reps has debunked reports making rounds in the media that it has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari for inviting him to explain the rising spate of insecurity in the country.

Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu, in a statement on Monday, titled ‘Clarification on Apology to the Presidency’, denied claims that those who moved the motion calling for Buhari’s invitation had apologised to him.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the House never apologised to anyone for exercising her constitutional mandate and the 9th Assembly of the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila will not do anything to desecrate or destroy the critical institution of democracy – the Legislature. We strongly believe that President Muhammadu Buhari subscribes to this democratic ethos and ideals as well,” the statement partly read.

Eko Hot Blog recalls that House of Reps members from Borno State had jointly sponsored a motion to summon the President following the gruesome execution of 43 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State in November.
