The Public Relation Officer of Association Of Waste Managers of Nigeria, AWAM, an environmental and a Waste Management Consultant, Mr. Olugbenga Adebola has described the relationship between AWAM and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA as symbiotic and productive.
He also described it as a relationship that has stood the test of time and would augur well for the development of the state in the area of waste management evacuation services.
He said this during an exclusive interview with Ekohotblog in Lagos.
He added: “We at Awam are dependable partners with Lawma in their quest to provide effective and efficient waste services for the people of Lagos state.
“We are prepared to wear our garment of humanity particularly during these trying times to work round the clock and complement the efforts of the State Government in its efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the state,” he said.
Acknowledging the level of preparedness of the state government to combating environmental uncleanness, he cited the daily briefings by the State Governor and the distribution of the protective gear to all PSPs in Lagos State as testimonials.
Adebola said aside from the governor’s commitment to curbing the menace of the virus in the state, that it is also clearly in the frontline of the fight to beat COVID-19, adding that the involvement and the cooperation of all PSP’s across the State, he added were crucial to the realization of that goal.
According to him, the next two weeks would be quite pivotal in the administration’s fight against the virus, despite also likely that PSPs would make a painful sacrifice as most banks would not be working which could affect their cash flow arrangements.
“ We will continue to work notwithstanding because we have assured the Governor of Lagos State of our unalloyed commitment to the discharge of our responsibilities as PSP’s”.
The PRO used the opportunity to appeal to the State Government for some palliatives to PSPs in view of the increasing cost of operation from now till the next two weeks.
He so appealed to the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, segregate their wastes, use the waste bags and not to patronise truck pushers.
The Lagos State Waste Management Authority has made provision for back up if there is any backlog, and they should call the LAWMA hotline for more information, he appealed
