We Need Prayer In Nigeria Now Not Campaign Of Hatred-Segun Osoba

As the world experience the global emergency of coronavirus (covid-19), it is instructive to note that the world as we know it has changed and there is a need for unity of purpose like never before. Thus, the spurning of negativity and blame games shouldn’t in any way be the order of the day. The focus of humanity at this time is overcoming the coronavirus.

“The focus should be on praying for each other and not attempt to bring each other down”

“What we need in this country at this crucial moment is prayer and support for each other and not innuendos aimed at tarnishing and destroying each others image,” he said

A recent development in Nigeria comes to mind in this regard when an elder statesman and former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba was rumoured to have come down with the novel virus. The story has it that he contacted the virus at the 80th birthday party of Nigeria’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Justice George Oguntade.

Osoba who is also a leader of the ruling all progressives congress disclosed on Thursday via a telephone interview with THISDAY that he has not contacted the virus nor has been showing any symptom of it as against reports making round in the media.

Osoba described the act as unfair and a deliberate attempt to blackmail Justice Oguntade’s hard-earned image. He warned those behind this to desist from it because the birthday party had nothing to do with the spread of the virus.

Guests at the high octane include Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; his wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, Wife of former governor of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, Chairman of Channels TV, Mr John Momoh; Former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Mrs Sarah Sosan; Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Ike Nwachukwu, among others.

Report reaching Eko Hot Blog is that virtually all the guests that attended the event have tested negative for the Virus.

The report which was not welcomed by Dr Osoba got him saying: “I want to clear the air that I, after attending the party, have not developed any sign of illness or symptoms of the pandemic.”

He said he had to isolate himself in compliance with the directive of the government to those who recently travelled into the country from countries with high numbers of confirmed cases and not because he developed any symptom.

This is one of the many stories going around town that has been used to cause unnecessary stirs in the nation when all hands should be on deck in helping to curb the spread of the coronavirus. And sadly, the target is an elder statesman whose life has been in the service of the nation as a journalist, governor and serving politician.

Ekohotblog condemns in totality this campaign of calumny and mischief. It should not have a place in our society during this trying period.

This is a time for all to come together, pray for one another and our country rather than spending our efforts in destroying one another.
