The University of Lagos Communication Alumni Association (UMCAA) has urged all belligerent parties at the university to make the students priority first and care more about their welfare.

In a statement released by its President, Mr. Vincent Oyo, and the Chairman of UMCAA Media Forum, Prof. Oluyinka Esan, the group expressed worry that students were being neglected and the university’s image was being truncated.

It said: “UMCAA is very concerned that, in this crisis, warring factions seem to have lost sight of the most important public affected by this misadventure, the students (both current and past).

“We should consider our students whose lives are put on hold – many of these are indigent, sponsored by pooled resources (cooperatives), or need to graduate on time so that other siblings can also get a shot at education.

“The UNILAG brand goes beyond the sentiments of those whose actions are threatening to tear it apart.”

The association also urged the Federal Government to give the Special Visitation panel it set up to look into the institution’s affairs the independence to do its work.
