Wealth Creation Ministry Announces IT-Based Training For Epe Youths

By Babatunde Kaka

Young creatives across Epe Division will now have a platform to hone their creative skills following an initiative by the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment geared towards assisting creative minds to parlay their talents towards wealth creation and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, disclosed this on Tuesday, 6th October 2021, while addressing a cross-section of youths at a sensitisation programme held at Epe Local Government Secretariat, Itamarun,

In an address entitled, “Be Your Own Boss” on the 21st Century Community Talent Hunt with Digital Entrepreneurship skills training/mentorship for unemployed youths in the Division and across Lagos State, the commissioner stated that the present realities in the labour market could adequately be tackled by providing an enabling environment for creative talents to explore their inventiveness and open up entrepreneurial opportunities for the teeming youths.

Mrs Arobieke said that His Excellency, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is working exceedingly hard to provide the platform for youths to exercise their skills and explore economic opportunities from their areas of strength.

She stated the commitment of the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment towards helping youths identify their talents and hone them towards economic prospects through an IT-based Entrepreneurship training.

According to her, the purpose of the IT-based Entrepreneurship Training is to ensure that these young creatives are up to speed with the current trends in digital technology, as pure talent without a firm grasp of digital trends would render them redundant due to the competitive environment in the global space.

“The Ministry is targeting 20 unemployed youths in each of the 57 Local Governments and LCDAs whose natural talents, innate gifts and passion would be discovered first. After hunting the talent, we would now give them IT-enabled entrepreneurship training and mentorship so that they can start their businesses as the Chief Executive Officers. It is expected that 20 unemployed youths together with the Wealth Ambassadors from each of the Local Governments and LCDAs assemble at the Local Government for the sensitisation Programme,” she stated.

While commending Messrs. Digital Age Consultants Ltd for collaborating with the Ministry on the Talent Hunt initiative, Arobieke said that the collaboration “shows we are on the right track. I am delighted to intimate you that everything that is new and different about entrepreneurship in a digital world is what participants will be availed with.”

Speaking on behalf of the good people of Ibeju-Lekki people, The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Olowa, lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for extending the training initiative to the residents of the council and for adopting a grassroots approach to the youth empowerment programme. He also expressed optimism that the initiative will open the floodgates for talented young minds to assuage the unemployment density in the labour market and engage in wealth creation.

Also, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, who also spoke on behalf of two other councils in the area, lauded the various youth-oriented initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, prospective participants would be required to provide basic information for a ready-made information sheet which will be made available at the Local Government centres. It was also gathered that the data required for the program includes personal information about prospective applicants and specific areas of natural interest/inclination.

Generating business ideas, drafting Business/Marketing Plan/ World -Class Proposal/, Using Digital Technology to Advance Businesses/Careers, Proper Record-Keeping Finance and Accounts, and Leadership Mentorship Management Skills constitute some of the focal areas of the training.
