Nigeria elected a new president two weeks ago, though some question the legitimacy of the election. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as Jagaban, of the All Progressive Congress emerged as the president-elect following the February 25th presidential election.

His win has led to several events including the opposition parties, PDP, and LP individually suing to reclaim their mandate which they claim had been stolen. It has been a season of decamping as several party members across Nigeria jump ship to the ruling party.

It was a week of mixed feelings for the prodigal son and daughter of the British monarchy, Harry and Meghan, as their son and daughter were given their Royal titles while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were asked to vacate the Frogmore Cottage. The cottage was a gift from the late Queen to the couple and they had spent a fortune renovating the cottage.

United States Financial Regulators have taken over Silicon Valley Bank as the bank was scrambling to raise money to plug a loss from the sale of assets affected by higher interest rates.

In China, President Xi Jinping secured a historic third term in office, thanks to a rubber stamp parliament. His Ally Li Qiang was also appointed Premier, replacing retiring Li Keqiang.

It’s been a tough and confusing week for Nigerians as the Supreme Court declared the old Naira notes legal tender but no word yet from the President and CBN Governor. This has left the people in a state of limbo and no idea what to do.

In a surprising turn of events, a Mexican cartel gave up some of its members to the United States. What did they do, you ask? They kidnapped 4 American citizens, 2 of which died. They gave up the men responsible with an apology letter to the victims’ families. Talk about a warped sense of morality.

Protests broke out in Israeli over judicial reforms, in Georgia over NGO draft laws, and in Nigeria over election results. I guess you can say it’s been an angry couple of weeks.

It’s going to be another week at home for students who are eager to get back to “school and study” which they love so much, as most institutions extend their resumption date due to postponement of state elections.
