West Ham vs. Arsenal: Gunners Knocked By The Hammer

  • Arsenal slips for the second week in their title race with Manchester City as West Ham stage a comeback to run out a 2-2 draw.

  • There were doubts over Arsenal’s consistency to provide a challenge against Manchester City for the Premier League title, and West Ham United have proven the world right.

  • Bukayo Saka may be left the villain as he rues his penalty miss at the London Stadium.

EKO HOT BLOG reports on the exhilarating fixture between West Ham United and Arsenal in a game that had everything going for it but for Arsenal.

It was a mini-London derby that had both the bragging right going for it for both teams, and stakes of premier league survival and title challenge. None was at the advantage heading into the clash, with all to play for in the clash.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

The Gunners stood a chance to regain their 6 points lead, and West Ham stood a chance to go further up the premier league ladder for salvation. In the end, one was left sighing; albeit in relief while the other was left to mourn what felt like a loss.

There was no victor nor vanquished, but there was a team that was defeated, and it was Arsenal.

The Gunners just as they did last weekend against Liverpool at Anfield, repeated the same feats as they started the game in fine form to go 2 goals up through Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard in the first half.

But in what felt like déjà vu, the Hammers stole a goal back through a Said Benrahma penalty spot kick to gift West Ham hope at turning the tides.

The tides they did change but it was all thanks to Bukayo Saka failing to convert a penalty awarded Arsenal for a handball decision against West Ham.

The Hammers only needed 2 minutes following the penalty miss to score the leveler in what became a dragged out 2-2 result, thanks to an Aaron Cresswell goal.

Guardiola will surely be left smiling, and his Manchester City team hard partying as Arsenal slips up.
