The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has performed commendably in Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that he attributed the hardship experienced in the country to the global economic meltdown but reassured Nigerians that the country would soon recover.
Governor Uzodinma made these remarks on Monday after leading three other forum members on a solidarity visit to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with the party’s Chairman, Governor Uzodinma acknowledged the global nature of the current hardship but emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has implemented policies to steer the country out of its difficulties.
“The truth of the matter is that the APC has done very well in Nigeria. What is happening currently is a global economic problem. We in Nigeria, under our own leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are also bringing out policies to ensure, given the kind of economy he met and the situation he saw when he came, he has started the treatment. By the grace of God, I am very confident that very soon Nigerians will be jubilant about how he has managed to navigate the waters,” he said.
Uzodinma, accompanied by Ondo Governor Lucky Ayiedatiwa, his Ekiti counterpart Abiodun Oyebanji, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State, explained that their visit was primarily to offer condolences and show solidarity with the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
“We are here, you know, of course, we are governors of APC. APC produced us, and we are in Abuja for a meeting. Of course, in obedience to the discipline of the party and loyalty to the party, we have to visit the Secretariat to talk with the leadership of the party, the chairman and members of the National Working Committee, and above all, commiserate with the chairman who also lost his mother-in-law; and also show solidarity with the chairman and managers of our party.
“Those who are serving us, the national leadership of our party, providing service, managing our party day to day, looking after the policies of the party, they’re in charge of the administration of the party, and of course, we members of the party and also critical stakeholders are committed to following and encouraging them as a way of showing support and that is solidarity.”
Regarding the upcoming Edo and Ondo Governorship elections, the PGF Chairman expressed optimism about the party’s prospects at the polls.
He mentioned that the Edo National Governorship Campaign Council would be inaugurated and launched on July 20 in Benin, the Edo State capital.
Commending the visiting Governors, Ganduje described their visit as a blessing to the party leadership.
He expressed confidence in the Governors, saying, “We are so happy about it and we have confidence in them. We will do all it takes to ensure that we maintain a good relationship with our governors all over the country, and we will help to protect their interests. There is no doubt that they’re also assisting the party; they are making the party proud as an institution.”
