‘We’ve Kept Our Promise’, Says Sanwo-Olu On Affordable Housing Scheme
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration commitments to tackling income disparity in the area of housing and making affordable and accessible housing available for residents.
Sanwo-Olu said the state would work out modalities and come up with framework that would accommodate low income earners in its mortgage and housing scheme.
The governor disclosed this at the inauguration of Courtland Luxury Villa and Ikate Elegushi Lekki Apartment Housing Units at Igbokusu, Lekki, on Thursday.
He said the project was in fulfilment of the promises made by his administration to prioritise the availability of affordable housing for Lagosians.
He said his government would embark on development that would make the state a 21st century economy.
“We also promised that infrastructure around housing units like this would be made available and we have kept to it.
“Our people deserve this and they need a whole lot more. It will not end here; we need to replicate development like this in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Ikeja, Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Kosofe and other parts of the state.
“We know that the income bracket is not the same, but government must feed and be able to remain competitive and available for income strata.
“This development, I am told, is for middle upper market, but we need to continue to look for the middle lower market. We need to continually look through affordable housing for our people and that is a commitment we have given,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He charged the Ministry of Housing to complete ongoing projects and urged the Mortgage Board to incorporate the middle lower market housing for others who can afford to pay for shelter.
The governor said that such partnership with developers, which had produced development in the state’s housing sector, was a promise kept by his administration.
Housing Commissioner Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said the Lekki Apartment is a serviced estate designed for the young and upwardly mobile Lagosians, whose businesses are conducted in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki, to stem the strenuous tide of commuting the Mainland-Island route.
