EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has identified that the club needs to sign a new centre-forward to compete against Arsenal and Manchester City in the upcoming Premier League season.
Owen made this statement while acknowledging the Red Devils’ impressive form under manager Erik Ten Hag.
According to Owen, Manchester United is doing well in the Premier League this term, but the playing staff is still some way short of being challengers to Arsenal and Manchester City.
He believes that the team needs a new centre-forward, and that’s an absolute must for next season.
Owen also thinks that Manchester United is still a few players short in comparison to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City at the moment.
Despite the club’s current third position on the Premier League table with 59 points from 30 games, Owen remains unconvinced that Manchester United is capable of tearing teams apart and winning easily. He believes that the club is still short on quality in comparison to their rivals, but acknowledges that they have the right manager in place.
“I think they have got the right manager in place. I think there is a buzz about the club at the moment that they need, that every club needs,” Owen said, as quoted by TEAMtalk.
“But I think the actual playing staff is still some way short of being… put it this way, if the league was restarting today, I would not have United as being challengers to Arsenal and Manchester City just yet.”
Overall, Owen feels that Manchester United needs to continue improving its playing staff to be competitive in the Premier League next season.
