Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government says a stable and reliable power supply for all Lagosians is attainable as the present administration is making efforts to attain a 24/7 electricity supply in the state.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Mineral Resources, Engr. Olowu Abiola, made the disclosure during a recent inspection tour of the ongoing upgrading of the Community Electrification Projects in Alimosho-Orelope, Oko-Oba and its environs.
The special adviser, in his explanation of how multiple communities within Alimosho Local Government Area will greatly benefit from the intervention, unveiled the strategic planning of the power project to encompass the inclusion of communities such as Orelope, Okunola, Akowonjo, Shasha, Oki, Wole Omo-osho, Federal Housing Authority Estate, and others.
He said the project includes intervention such as the replacement of 14 Nos Breaker Panels at the Transmission/Injection Substation at Gowon Estate and the Provision of Seven 500kVA Transformers, Replacement of 214 Reinforced Concrete Poles at Orelope, Okunola, Oko-Oba, Abattoir.
Other areas of interventions, according to him, include the modernisation of the Overhead Power Line, the Replacement of 39,800 metres of Distribution Line Conductors, the Reconstruction of a Double Circuit 11KV Feeder of the pilot areas using 5,500 metres of 150mm Aluminium Conductor and 100% metre intervention.
“The power project initiative was borne out of the desire of the State Government to improve the standard of living of the residents, contribute to their economic activities and ultimately boost the businesses of owners of small and medium scale enterprises including artisans who rely majorly on electricity for the survival of their businesses,” Abiola revealed.
The governor’s aide reiterated the intention of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to make the power project sustainable through communal efforts to protect it from vandalism and theft, urging the leadership of the communities to take ownership of the project.
Abiola stated that the Lagos government, having observed the power situation of the entire Alimosho, decided to come up with the intervention to improve the daily hours of power supply to 20 hours a day.
Residents of the benefiting communities appreciated the state government, stating that the project will indeed improve the socio-economic undertakings and commercial activities of the area.
