What’s With The Desperation? – Peter Okoye On Political Uproar Over Cashless Policy

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, has criticized All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who complained about the Naira swap policy that has led to cash scarcity in the country.

The policy, which banned the use of old naira notes, has caused hardship for many Nigerians.

Some APC governors, including presidential candidate Senator Bola Tinubu, expressed displeasure with the policy during a meeting called by the party’s National Working Committee leader, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

They urged President Muhammadu Buhari and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to acknowledge a Supreme Court order suspending the ban on old naira notes.

However, Peter Okoye questioned the governors’ complaints, suggesting that Nigerians were not bothered by the policy. In a series of Instagram posts, he claimed that the citizens had grown accustomed to the hardships caused by the APC government and supported Buhari and Emefiele.

The musician further wondered why the governors were so desperate to challenge the redesigned naira policy, asking whether the hardship on Nigerians only began after its introduction.

He reminded the governors that their party had placed over 300 million Nigerians in multidimensional poverty, and accused them of being pseudo-concerned about the suffering of the masses.

Okoye’s comments reflect the growing frustration of Nigerians over the country’s economic situation, particularly with regards to cash scarcity.

The Naira swap policy has made it difficult for people to access cash, leading to long queues at banks and ATMs. Some have accused the government of exacerbating the problem by not providing enough support to financial institutions.
