In a display of solidarity with suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a group of women in Rivers State staged a walkout during an event featuring the wife of the interim State Administrator, Mrs. Theresa Ete-Ibas.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that the women demanded that only the wife of the suspended governor, Mrs. Valeria Fubara, should address them.

The incident occurred at a women’s empowerment event held at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt.

Invited guests and members of the media witnessed the dramatic protest, which highlighted the ongoing dissent over the suspension of Governor Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March.

Chanting slogans such as “We want SIM!” and “Strangers can’t speak for us!”, the women accused Mrs. Ete-Ibas of being an outsider with no electoral mandate.

“Who is that impostor? Ibas’s wife is addressing Rivers’ women? Who is she? Come on, pack your load, Madam, we don’t want you,” one of the protesting women declared.

Another protester voiced her frustration, saying, “We need Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu to come and address us. She is the one we have been waiting for. We don’t need a stranger. We want Sim right now. Sim should come today, not tomorrow.”

The women refused to be addressed by anyone other than the wife of the suspended governor, Mrs. Valeria Fubara thereby cutting the program short.

This incident is the latest in a series of grassroots protests calling for the reinstatement of Governor Fubara, who enjoys widespread public support, particularly among women and youth groups.

Since the suspension of Governor Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in March, protests have become a regular occurrence across Local Government Areas in the state. Demonstrators are urging the federal government to respect the will of the Rivers people.
