Why 8th Assembly Didn’t Confirm Some Buhari’s Appointees – Saraki

Bukola Saraki, former president of the senate, on Wednesday disclosed reason being refusal of the senate leadership under him to confirm the appointment of some individuals.

Ekohotblog reports that Saraki made the disclosure in a series of tweek.

The former governor of Kwara state was reacting to a tweet from Dele Momodu, publisher of ovation magazine praising him.

Momodu had described him as as one of the “most intelligent” leaders in Nigeria.

Saraki said the leadership of the senate under him declined to confirm some appointees of Buhari out of due diligence.

Saraki noted that the decisions and actions taken by the senate under him were in the interest of the country and not a personal agenda.

He added that when the upper legislative chamber Summoned the Inspector General of Police and the service chiefs at the time, it was because they were not happy about the situation of things regarding security of the country and were keen on addressing the issues.

“Thanks @DeleMomodu! Compliments of the season! As I used to emphasize during our conversations while I was President of the 8th @NGRSenate: the decisions that we took, the positions we adopted, and the interventions that we embarked on were in the interest of the nation,” he tweeted.

Ibrahim Magu, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was one of the nominees rejected by the Saraki-led senate.

Saraki led senate also blocked some loan requests by the federal government.

Saraki was excoriated in some quarters, especially by supporters of the president, who claimed he was deliberately working at cross-purposes with the Buhari-led executive and was sabotaging the effort of the government in achieving some of the things it set to accomplish, a development many believe culminated in his defeat at the polls in 2019.
