EkoHotBlog reports that the Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the 23 local government (LG) chairmen in the state for financial misappropriation.
The state assembly on Wednesday in Makurdi directed the chairmen to hand over the affairs of the local government areas and properties in their possession, including official vehicles to the DGSAs with immediate effect and proceed on suspension pending the completion of an investigation into their books of accounts and other related matters.
Speaker Aondona Dajoh and members of the House urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to immediately proceed to set up caretaker committees in line with the Benue State Local Government law.
The decision was based on the report of the committee, headed by Hon Peter Ipusu, set last week to investigate the council chairmen.
The committee had requested that in order to conduct the review without any interference, the House should immediately suspend the chairmen in all the 23 local government councils and the legislative councils for conniving to mismanage public funds put in their trust.
