Why Buhari Should Not Be Impeached ― Senator

• The Senator representing Taraba Central Senatorial District in the Senate, Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, has condemned calls to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over rising insecurity in the country.
• According to him, the responsibility to provide security lies not only on the President but on all state governors.

The Senator representing Taraba Central Senatorial District in the Senate, Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, has condemned calls that President Muhammadu Buhari should resign or be impeached over rising insecurity in the country.

Yusuf, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Special Duties, said the impeachment of President Buhari would not solve the security challenges bewildering the country.

The lawmaker made the comment while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the responsibility to provide security lies not only on the President but on all state governors, who also control the local government.

“Some few months ago, we were asking the President to change the security chiefs. They have been changed, what has happened?

“Some people are saying break up the country, some said change the leadership, impeach Mr President. How will that help the situation?

“If you impeach the president, who takes over? Is it not the vice president? Is it not the same government? Or you remove the president and his vice, and the Senate President takes over, is it not the same government?

“We must think out of the box and part of that is to see it as our own responsibility to solve insecurity in this country,” the Senator said.

He further enjoined Nigerians to come to term, noting that the address of security challenges is not only government responsibility.

Yusuf added, “On my own opinion, President Muhammadu Buhari is doing the best that he can. We must also synergize with him. We must give him the kind of assistance that will help solve our problem.

“Intelligence should be shared so that we can have communal protection. People are not doing enough to help the government to do what it ought to do.

“President Buhari alone cannot solve this problem until we  stand up together and work with him, then we solve this problem.”
