Adeh stated that the baby was discovered wrapped in cloth following a distress call to the Mpape Division’s Juvenile and Women Care Section (JWC). The operatives immediately rescued the child and took them to the Mpape Primary Health Care Center, where medical checks confirmed the baby was in stable condition.
The mother was arrested after a tip-off from the community and admitted to abandoning the child. During interrogation, she explained that her husband’s abandonment of her left her unable to care for the child, prompting her to abandon the baby.
The FCT Police Command condemned the act of child abandonment and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society. The baby will be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare for proper care, while the mother will face prosecution under the provisions of the Child Rights Act (CRA), 2003, following the completion of investigations.
Adeh praised the public for their cooperation, which led to the baby’s rescue, and urged FCT residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police using the following emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913, 08028940883, CRU: 08107314192, PCB: 09022222352.
