Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has claimed that Peter Obi’s supporters are now targeting him because he refused to ally with them ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Wike stated that Obi and his team lobbied him extensively before the polls, but he declined their offers, believing that Obi would not succeed in the election.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike expressed his reluctance to waste Rivers State’s votes on a candidate he deemed unlikely to win.

“They cannot deny that Peter Obi’s group lobbied me extensively. I told them, ‘This one won’t fly.’ Rivers State will not vote for someone who isn’t going to succeed. There’s a conspiracy against us, and I say enough is enough. They want to fight back, but they’re only fighting themselves,” he said.
EKO HOT BLOG recalls allegations of massive electoral rigging during the 2023 presidential election, with claims of result sheets being manipulated in favor of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State.
There were also reports of political thugs allegedly deployed by Wike to pressure voters into supporting specific candidates and allegations of vote-buying.
In the election, Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party each won 12 states, with Tinubu ultimately declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for receiving the highest number of votes.
