Why I Want To Organise National Conference – Afe Babalola

  • ”All I am doing, in my own case, is to prevent the country from disintegration”

Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), has disclosed the motive behind a national conference he is planning to organise.

Babalola said he is organising the national conference to help pull the country back from the precipice and save it from imminent implosion and disintegration

The elderstate man was reacting to claims by the presidency that conference was a gathering of the federal government traducers who were seeking for ways destabilise the country and toss it into turmoil.

The presidency had alleged that there’s a plot to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that “disruptive elements are now recruiting the leadership of some ethnic groups and politicians round the country, with the intention of convening some sort of conference, where a vote of no confidence would be passed on the president”.

Reacting on Friday, Babalola said the goal of the conference is to address current national quagmire the country is enmeshed in and also help strengthen it unity and sovereignty.

Babalola’s reaction was contained in a goodwill message he gave at the foundation-laying ceremony of the ‘NBA House’ in Ado Ekiti, capital of Ekiti state.

Babalola said he was an ally of governments and that his views and counsel had always been respected in the past.

He said the conference was engendered by comments attributed to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who had blamed the elite for doing nothing to address the series of challenges that confronted the nation.

Babalola said: ”All I am doing, in my own case, is to prevent the country from disintegration and drifting into anarchy so that it can remain an indivisible entity, and not to throw the country into turmoil as being suggested.

”I am here to spend my own money and time to help government return decorum to our dear nation. There must not be anarchy or civil war.”

Babalola had said he will donate N50 million to the conference themed ‘Summit of Hope’.
