Okupe’s lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, had earlier disclosed that his client was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday while on his way to London.

“The reason according to the source is that he was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court Abuja has freed him from the case in which he was convicted and paid a fine to the knowledge of the whole world and was allowed to go home,” Babaleye said.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, confirmed the arrest of the immediate past director general of the Labour Party presidential campaign council.

He said Okupe had been handed over to the EFCC which sought his arrest.

“Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, this morning (Thursday) at the instance of the EFCC,” the statement reads.

“He has long been handed over to the Commission, which requested for the action.
