EKO HOT BLOG reports that his remarks follow a wave of high-profile defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC in recent weeks. Among the defectors are Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ned Nwoko, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, six members of the House of Representatives, and all members of the Delta State House of Assembly.
In a further twist, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno also hinted at a possible defection to the APC and publicly declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
These developments have stirred anxiety among opposition leaders and political commentators, who argue that the APC’s rising dominance could erode democratic balance and pave the way for a one-party state.
But speaking on Monday via his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, Morka dismissed those fears, pointing out that when the PDP controlled the majority of Nigerian states, similar concerns were never raised.
“PDP governed with 31 states and there was no threat of a one-party state. APC governs with 21 states and the opposition is lost in hysteria,” he wrote. “Iliya Damagum, PDP, why the shame?”
Morka’s defence echoed earlier comments by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who told journalists at the Presidential Villa last Friday that the party’s recent gains were driven by good governance and public confidence.

Ganduje further argued that there was nothing inherently wrong with a one-party system, citing China’s development under its single-party structure as an example.
Despite mounting criticism, the APC appears unfazed, insisting that its expanding influence is rooted in merit and democratic choice, not manipulation or coercion.
