Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Police Command has explained what led to a physical altercation between one of its officers and a soldier on Carter Bridge, Apongbon, in the Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the soldier was a passenger on a bus driving against traffic on Wednesday.
According to Hundeyin, the soldier attacked the policeman in anger after he stopped the bus from breaking the law.
“The soldier, who was a passenger, directed the driver to drive against traffic. The policemen stopped the vehicle and the soldier took offence that the vehicle he boarded was stopped,” he said.
“He, therefore, decided to attack the armed policeman. The Army has been informed.”
Meanwhile, the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, has launched an investigation into the brawl.
The division’s spokesperson, Olaniyi Osoba, said necessary action will be taken after the probe.
“I am aware of it; I saw the video. What we are doing now is to fish out those involved and necessary action will be taken,” he said.
“But we have to investigate to know what really happened, so as I am talking to you, we are working on it and presently, normalcy has been restored and people are going about their normal businesses.”
