Why Tinubu Is Travelling To The US, UK – Campaign Council Replies Critics

Tinubu’s campaign council has explained why he is travelling to the US and the UK.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Asiwaju/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council has said the scheduled foreign trips of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US) are an extension of his campaign.

The council was responding to a political group, Southwest Renaissance Group, which had claimed that the APC presidential candidate was travelling to the foreign countries to “whitewash alleged inconsistencies in his academic records.”

The group also stated that, barring any last minute change, Tinubu had perfected plans to be in Chatham House, London on the 5th of December 2022 to talk about security and the economy “which his party has failed woefully in every respect.”

Reacting in a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign’s Diaspora Directorate, Femi Odere, on Tuesday, the campaign accused the Southwest Renaissance Group of peddling falsehoods and half-truths.

It also described the group as a “faceless association” engaging in a “campaign of calumny, inanity, and harebrained mumbo jumbo” against Tinubu.

According to the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign, the APC candidate’s extension of his weeklong campaign to the US and the UK is predicated on Nigeria’s huge diaspora populations.

The campaign noted that Tinubu’s aim is to take the campaign to the Nigerians in diaspora so that he can bring them into the new development paradigm with his Action Plan if elected president in 2023.

Odere also confirmed that the former Lagos governor will speak at the Chatham House in London on December 5, 2022, about security and the economy to articulate what he would do differently in order to “permanently terminate this scourge.”

“The latest nonsense of probably this non-group that calls itself a group about the academic qualification of the APC presidential candidate ordinarily shouldn’t be dignified with a response as it’s a completely dead and buried issue,” the statement reads.

“But we will, as it presents for us a silver lining whereby the candidate’s detractors and the gullible opponents with which they are in cahoot are in need of some enlightenment as to how to run a campaign in a 21st century world.

“We’re not surprised that the main opposition parties and their presidential candidates have largely been reactive to the strategic moves of the APC presidential candidate because Asiwaju Tinubu has, and continues to run the most strategic campaign in his presidential bid in Nigeria’s history in what can be described as sector-specific, stakeholder-targeted and issue-oriented large town hall meetings across the country. This scheduled foreign trips will not be an exception.

“It is also not surprising that this faceless group and its opposition party master, whichever one it may be, doesn’t have the presence of mind to understand that Asiwaju’s extension of his weeklong campaign to the United States and the United Kingdom is predicated on Nigeria’s huge diaspora populations who are in their tens of millions, most of whom are highly professionally and materially endowed that Tinubu is determined to harness for the development of a greater Nigeria.”

The Tinubu/Shettima campaign also knocked their major opponents, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), for running supposed uninspiring diaspora campaigns.

“As a strategic thinker and the most astute head hunter in the nation’s public service history, the upwardly mobile and resource endowed Nigerians in Diaspora automatically becomes Asiwaju’s business to figure out a way to bring them into the new development paradigm with his Action Plan if he’s given the opportunity to preside over the affairs of this country in the next round of presidential election in 2023. Hence a befitting strategy to take the campaign to them,” the campaign said.

“This is the crux of his weeklong foreign trips, unlike Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, they should be reminded, whose foreign trips to the United States had to be purchased and an appearance at a small town hall meeting where a supporter was overheard seeking permission from his candidate to scientifically rig the coming election for him respectively.

“Yes, Asiwaju will speak at the Chatham House in London on December 5th about security and the economy as these twin, interrelated issues would probably be raised in his US engagements as well.

“To speak about these issues is a bold attempt to not only articulate what would be done differently in order to permanently terminate this scourge, but to also intimate Asiwaju’s audience with specifics about improving the economy under his watch. After all, ‘it’s the economy, stupid.’

“Asiwaju’s foreign trips and speaking engagements in strategic US and UK cities is called ‘strategic communication’ just in case this faceless group have never heard of the phrase.”
