Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Ministry of Health has rejected claims that victims of a train accident were left unattended to.
Recall that a train rammed into a Lagos State government staff bus conveying several civil servants Thursday morning.
The fatal collision led to the death of six passengers with many injured.
Emergency responders promptly attended to the injured survivors in an open space, which led to allegations that there was not enough accommodation at government hospitals to admit the victims.
However, the Lagos health ministry dismissed the allegations as “wicked and mischievous” in a statement Thursday evening.
The ministry, which described peddlers of the falsehood as ignorant, said the pictures posted on social media show medical personnel attending to the accident victims outside the emergency centre to classify their injuries.
It added that the move is normal medical procedure in an emergency, noting that the survivors have since been treated and admitted into hospital wards.
“The falsehood peddled on social media that victims of the train accident at Ikeja were left unattended to is wicked and mischievous. Pure ignorance,” the Lagos health ministry said.
“Victims were speedily evacuated to @LASUTHikeja. They were attended to outside the emergency Centre to classify their injuries.
“Normal medical procedure in an emergency. Survivors have since undergone various stages of treatment and admitted into wards.
“LASUTH, Ikeja, has displayed excellence and commitment to ensure all patients are stable and discharged promptly.
“It is inhuman for anyone to go on social media to peddle rumours when families grieve over the loss of their loved ones.”
Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared a three-day mourning in Lagos to honour the six people who lost their lives to the accident.
