EKO HOT BLOG reports tha speaking after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike criticized those behind the rumours, stating that they were attempting to divert public attention from critical political issues.
“I don’t want to give credence to people fabricating falsehoods. First of all, only a human being can collapse, not a ghost. If I had health issues, I would acknowledge it, but the truth is, I never collapsed at any event,” he stated.
Wike alleged that the rumours were orchestrated to overshadow revelations made by a former Head of Service in Rivers State, who recently exposed plans to bomb the state’s House of Assembly complex.
“In order to divert attention from this major issue, they decided to spread a rumour that I had collapsed and was flown overseas. There was never a time I collapsed, and I have not been taken abroad for any medical treatment. These are just political distractions,” he added.
The controversy began after social media posts, particularly on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), claimed Wike had collapsed at an event in Abuja on Friday and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
In response, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, debunked the claims, calling them fake news.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the reports, accusing “online mischief-makers” of spreading falsehoods about Wike’s health, including claims that he had suffered a stroke.

Onanuga shared a video of Wike attending a Sallah homage to President Tinubu, further disproving the rumours.
