Wike Still Hurting Over PDP Presidential Primary Loss – Dele Momodu
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is still upset about losing the party’s 2023 presidential ticket to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
According to Momodu, Wike’s disappointment over the loss is a key factor in the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, Momodu revealed that Wike was confident he would win the PDP presidential ticket but was left deeply disappointed by the outcome.

Atiku secured the ticket with 371 votes in the PDP primary, while Wike, his closest competitor, garnered 237 votes. Following the loss, Wike, then Governor of Rivers State, along with four other PDP governors, formed the G5 group and openly opposed Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.
Discussing the challenges facing the PDP since the election, Momodu expressed surprise that Wike has not moved on from the defeat.

“The first issue was that he (Wike) lost the primary in 2022 to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and it appears he hasn’t been able to get past that disappointment,” Momodu said. “Wike was convinced he would win the ticket and become the next president of Nigeria, so it’s understandable that he felt hurt. Anyone who has ever experienced such a loss would feel bad.”
He added, “We thought as time passed, he would come to terms with it, but it seems he hasn’t.”
