Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen entered the match knowing that a victory would seal the title with five games remaining, displaying remarkable composure throughout the game.
Florian Wirtz’s hat-trick, along with goals from Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka, extended their unbeaten streak to an impressive 43 games across all competitions.
This historic maiden title for Leverkusen, following five runner-up finishes in their history, not only keeps their hopes of a remarkable treble alive but also puts an end to their notorious ‘Neverkusen’ moniker once and for all.

As the clock ticked down to the final 10 minutes, some of the long-suffering fans began to edge towards the sidelines, with a few eager supporters even prematurely storming the pitch while the match was still in progress.
Leverkusen’s players promptly guided the fans back to their seats, with some complying, albeit momentarily. Eventually, at the 90-minute mark, tearful supporters flooded onto the field to celebrate with the players as the stands swiftly emptied.
Leverkusen now boasts an impressive 79 points, marking the best tally after 29 games in the history of the German league, and sits comfortably 16 points ahead of both second-placed Bayern and third-placed Stuttgart.

The Leverkusen team bus arrived at the BayArena stadium 90 minutes before kick-off, navigating through a throng of black and red-clad fans.
Temporary signs reading ‘Xabi Alonso Street’ adorned what is typically known as Bismarck Street, paying homage to the club’s coach.
Looking forward to Thursday’s Europa League match against West Ham in London, Alonso made seven changes to his starting lineup, opting to bench key players like Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Alex Grimaldo, who had been a constant presence in the league season thus far.
