EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nollywood actor, Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars gala and other Academy events for 10 years after the US actor slapped comic Chris Rock at the Oscars.
In a statement, the Academy said the 94th Oscars had been “overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage”.
Smith has apologised for his actions and resigned from the Academy.
The actor hit Rock for joking about his wife’s shaved head, a result of the hair-loss condition alopecia.
Shortly after the incident, which had already sparked reactions around the world, Smith won the most coveted prize of the night, Best Actor, for his role in the biopic, King Richard.
The Board’s decision stopped short of revoking the best actor award Smith won last month for “King Richard,” or barring him from future Oscar nominations or wins.
“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” wrote president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson in a letter.
In a brief statement to Hollywood trade publications, Smith said: “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that Will Smith will seek expert help to deal with stress at a celebrity rehab clinic.
This moment had such repercussions that the artist will spend some time in a rehabilitation clinic. “The impact of the backlash has hit Will hard, so he will be getting help on dealing with stress,” British newspaper ‘The Sun’ reports.

“This is unquestionably the battle of his career. It will be a high-end retreat used by the rich and famous and he will be doing a lot of soul searching and working out how he can move forward,” continued telling’ The Sun’.
Will Smith hopes, according to the newspaper’s source, to return in time to save his career and reputation. Recall that, after the official apology, the actor has already been dismissed from the Academy of Motion Picture Oscars after the assault.
