In Smith’s self-titled memoir, the actor wrote candidly about Melanie Parker, who he was “deeply and totally in love with” as a teenager.

He also explained how Caroline Smith his mother had casually caught them making love in the kitchen.
According to Smith, Parker lived with his family because her own mother was imprisoned and he didn’t want her to be sent to a foster home.
“She flipped the light switch as she had done tens of thousands of times before. But this time, her eyes landed upon her eldest son and his girlfriend deep in throes of reckless lovemaking,” Smith’s memoir read.
“As a teenager, outside of physical injury, you cannot feel worse than having your mother catch you and your girlfriend doggy-style on her kitchen floor.
“I’m still not exactly sure why I did what I did that night. To this day, I have no idea what I was thinking.
“Of all the experiences I am sharing in this book, this is the individual moment of personal behavior that makes the least sense to me.”
That event led to Parker moving out of his family home to stay with her aunt.
Smith said they had continued to date but the relationship ended when he learned that Parker had cheated on him.
