For the past five years, sports and fitness enthusiasts from all over the world have gathered in Lagos to compete in the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon (ABLCM).
This year will be no exception, with the marathon scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021.
However, in order to adhere to COVID-19 safety standards and ensure the safety of competitors, only 300 runners, all of whom were locals, International elite runners, as well as selected members of professional running organizations, will be eligible to compete in the 42-kilometer event.
There are plans in place for the general public to virtually engage in the 10K run, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
The organisers said;
“The marathon’s theme is “Stronger Together,” based on the idea that we’ve kept together and survived the pandemic’s gruesome consequences, which include company closures, lockdowns, and bans, as well as the loss of lives and livelihoods.
“These events have driven us as a country and as individuals to the brink, but we will emerge stronger and better than ever.
“The FiNerge App will be used to register for the 2021 ABLCM. Individuals who have registered will participate in the virtual 10KM race anytime between April 9th and April 11th, 2021, and post their photos on social media to prove that they were a part of the unique event.
“People will cheer on the runners from the comfort of their own homes, even though they are not on the street, since the event will be widely broadcast on multi-media outlets.
“The FiNerge app is more than just a marathon registration portal. Yoga, bicycling, weight loss, and other lifestyle-enhancing practices are among the activities available.
“Access Bank’s desire to provide its customers with a “more than banking” experience has been demonstrated once again, among other things, through this fantastic sporting initiative.
“The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has expanded exponentially in its five years of existence, gaining praise from prestigious bodies around the world such as the IAAF, which awarded it a silver label.
“The marathon aims to promote sustainable/healthy living and tourism among Lagosians, Nigerians, and Africans in general.
