Woman Imprisoned for Threatening Seyi Tinubu, IGP Granted N10Millon Bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Olamide Thomas, who was arrested for allegedly threatening Seyi Tinubu and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun with death threats on social media.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, admitted Thomas to bail in the sum of N10 million, with one surety in a like amount.

Justice Nwite, in his ruling on Thomas’ bail application, noted that the prosecution had not presented sufficient evidence to suggest that Thomas would evade trial.
The judge stated that as long as the accused did not pose a flight risk or interfere with proceedings, granting bail would be in the interest of justice.
The court further stipulated that the surety must submit an affidavit of means and a three-year tax clearance certificate, as well as ensure residence within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additionally, both Thomas and the surety were ordered to submit two recent passport photographs, and the surety’s address was to be verified.
The case stems from a viral social media post in which Thomas allegedly made threatening remarks about Seyi Tinubu, IGP Egbetokun, and Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.
In a video recorded in 2024, Thomas allegedly threatened Tinubu with death and calamity, invoking fear of violence or harm.

Similar threats were made against Egbetokun and Adejobi, threatening Adejobi that he will lose his children.
Thomas was arraigned on December 20, 2024, and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, facing charges under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024. The trial has been adjourned until February 18, 2025.
