A 54-year-old Italy-based businesswoman, Tina Uyi, narrowly escaped death after her estranged husband, 55-year-old Osaro Ahunwan, allegedly set her apartment on fire in Benin City. The incident occurred at No 7 Asemota Street, Idumwonwina.

EKO HOT BLOG learned that Tina, who had just returned to Nigeria on December 31st, reportedly lost large sums of money in both local and foreign currencies, as well as packages from her friends in Italy meant for their loved ones in Nigeria.

An eyewitness said Tina heard a bang on her window while exiting the bathroom and found it was her estranged husband demanding entry into her apartment. She allegedly refused him entry, stating that their relationship had ended after her family returned her bride price in April 2024.

Angered by her refusal, Osaro allegedly threatened to burn down the apartment and harm its occupants. He proceeded to shatter the windows, pour petrol inside, and set the apartment on fire with the help of a lighter.

The fire quickly spread, but neighbors intervened, rescuing Tina’s elderly parents, both in their nineties, from the flames. The Edo State Fire Service later arrived to extinguish the fire.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Tina revealed that Osaro had previously threatened to kill both her and himself in 2023.

She also shared that during their troubled marriage, Osaro had destroyed her Lexus Jeep and exhibited controlling, suspicious behavior, which led her to end the marriage after less than two years. The police in Ekiadolor have arrested Osaro and his accomplice, Odaro Oviarobo, in connection with the incident.
