Women in Gassa said the borehole will allow them to wash clothes more regularly. Martha Boyi, a woman leader, stated “Before now, we couldn’t wash our wrappers regularly because of lack of water but with the provision of the facility, we will keep neat and smell nice.”
The lack of clean water led to high rates of typhoid and malaria according to Iliya Luka, a former youth leader. “With this provision, we are sure that the trend will be reversed,” he said.
Dara James Toma, the Acting Gwom Gassa, noted “Water is life and we are delighted because this project has a direct positive impact on the grassroots people. The stress of finding water on our women and young people has reduced greatly.”
Iliya Nash, a former councilor, said the gesture brings succor after long suffering without access to clean water and inability to farm safely since 2002 due to insecurity.
