Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, LASODA, has joined other countries across the world in celebration of World Disability Day (WDD). The State Government declared that its office is very concerned and committed to building a better place for the disabled admist all happenings.

The GeneralManager, LASODA, Mr. Ogundairo, disclosed that the observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities
” It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life” He stressed.
Eko Hot Blog has learnt that Ogundairo said that
People with disabilities are disproportionately affected by the health, social and economic consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, they shall be supported with full mights.
“In this context, this year’s theme emphasizes the importance of strengthening our collective efforts for universal access to essential services, including immediate health and social protection, education, digital infrastructure, accessible information, employment and other socio-cultural opportunities in order to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind in times of crisis and beyond. Since the global COVID-19 outbreak, UNESCO has been at the forefront of the response to the pandemic, encouraging education systems to remain open and accessible to all. Global school closures due to the pandemic represented an unprecedented risk to children’s education, protection and wellbeing” he added.
He also appreciate all stakeholders and others that had been at the core of advancing the Noble course of People Living with Disabilities, imploring them not to relent in their efforts or regard Disability concerns as only the responsibility of the State and Federal Government.
