EKO HOT BLOG reports that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has weighed in on the debate about the best strikers in the world, naming Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski as two of the top three.

The two players are set to face off in the Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday, as their clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, head to head for the season’s fifth and final El Clasico.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Benzema and Lewandowski have been in excellent form recently, with the Frenchman scoring a hat-trick following the international break and the Pole bagging a brace along with an assist. Both players are widely regarded as among the best of their generation, and their performances in Wednesday’s game are likely to be closely watched by football fans worldwide.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the match, Xavi praised both players but highlighted their different styles. “With Benzema and Lewandowski, we’re speaking of two of the three best strikers in the world right now,” he said. “They’re similar, but Benzema joins the midfield more. I would say that Robert understands our game perfectly, and he’s more physical.”

Xavi’s comments are likely to spark further debate among fans and pundits about the relative merits of the two players and whether they are among the best in the world. However, there can be no denying that Benzema and Lewandowski are hugely talented strikers capable of deciding games on their own.
