EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have pledged a “new era” of partnership between their two nations.
However, this partnership is seen as a challenge to the United States, which they view as an aggressive Cold War hegemon sowing chaos worldwide.
Xi and Putin signed a joint statement proclaiming opposition to the United States on various security issues.
They share a view on everything from Taiwan and Ukraine to North Korea and cooperation on peaceful nuclear technologies and finance.
The two leaders believe the post-Cold War era of U.S. dominance is crumbling.
They view the West as decadent and in decline, with China challenging U.S. supremacy in various fields.
Additionally, the United States casts China as its biggest competitor and Russia as its biggest nation-state threat. U.S. President Joe Biden argues that this century will be defined by an existential contest between democracies and autocracies.
Putin’s visit to China comes after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s unsuccessful attempt to undermine Xi’s relationship with Putin.
The joint statement criticized the United States for its Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation approach.
Xi and Putin agreed on a political settlement to the Ukraine crisis.
Putin expressed gratitude to China for trying to solve the crisis and briefed Xi on the situation in Ukraine.
The two leaders outlined sectors where their countries are strengthening ties, including nuclear and energy cooperation, food supplies, and Chinese car manufacturing in Russia.
However, Informal chats between the leaders and senior officials are expected to be key to their two-day meeting.
Putin and Xi will participate in a gala celebration marking 75 years since the Soviet Union recognized the People’s Republic of China.
It is unclear if Putin will make any more stops in Asia after China.
Furthermore, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin have pledged a “new era” of partnership, challenging the United States’ dominance. They share a view on various security issues and believe the post-Cold War era of U.S. dominance is crumbling.
