Yahaya Bello Released
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has been released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after fulfilling bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
His release on Friday evening was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, Adamu Duza, who stated, “Yahaya Bello has been released after meeting the bail conditions.

The bail conditions, which included a ₦500 million bond, required Bello to produce two sureties of equal value. Both sureties were mandated to swear affidavits of means and own properties in Abuja.
Additionally, the former governor was required to surrender his passport and obtain court permission before traveling outside Nigeria.
The Federal High Court presiding judge, Emeka Nwite, had initially granted Bello bail on these terms. However, an earlier request for bail submitted to Justice Maryann Anenih on December 10 was denied, as it was deemed premature.
The subsequent approval by the court paved the way for Bello’s release.
Yahaya Bello faces a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property.
He is being tried alongside Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu. All defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The bail terms also included providing three sureties, each owning properties in high-value areas of Abuja, such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro. Bello’s release marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings against him.
