The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Victor Oye has said that years of neglect by successive Nigerian government was responsible for the End SARS protest, currently going on in the country.

In a press release on Wednesday, Oye said, “The gradual, but unfortunate degeneration of the country into lawlessness is attributable to the long years of misrule, corruption and insecurity.

“Our nation cannot afford the impending anarchy. There is no way the vision of a better Nigeria can be achieved without total reorientation on the part of our leaders whose laid-back attitudes over the years led the present rot.”

He called on the Federal Government to do more to assuage the sufferings of the people and restore their confidence by addressing some of the key issues raised by the protesters.

The party frowned at the infiltration of the hitherto peaceful protests by hoodlums and other mischief-makers, calling on the security agencies to immediately fish out and punish those that attacked unarmed protesters and engaged in wanton destruction of lives and properties anywhere in the country.

He said, “The various panels set up by the state governments must ensure that it did a thorough job by identifying the perpetrators of acts of brutality against innocent Nigerians and bringing them to book.

“Now that the awareness has been created and government is willing to negotiate, the opportunity should be grabbed with both hands so that our nation can return to the path of peace and normality,” he said.
