EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has sent warnings to motorists as he commissioned a 55-kilometre road in Yobe.
At the commissioning of the road linking Nguru-Gashu’a-Bayamari, the President outlined the major causes of damage on the Nigerian roads.
He listed the causes to include the overloading of vehicles and trucks which accelerates pavement damage, the spilling of petroleum products which dissolves all the components and allow water to penetrate and converting the road shoulders into parking places.
This online media gathered that Buhari warned against abusing roads constructed by the federal government meant to stimulate economic growth and development.
Represented by the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, Buhari explained that the road has been built to the highest quality of design and workmanship.
He stressed that if managed, the roads would last for their design service life span.
Road abuse takes many forms such as overloading of vehicles and trucks which accelerates pavement damage, the spilling of petroleum products which dissolves all the components and allow water to penetrate and converting the road shoulders to parking places that bring the onset of road failure from the shoulder.
“We most all do our best to avoid these practices. Report them when they occur and act in a lawful manner to stop them”, he admonished.
Buhari further explained for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that drive economic growth, the 55-kilometre road is also a statement of economic efficiency and ease of doing business.
“This is because the travel time before the construction has reduced since the completion of this road,” he said.
